Heroes Con - The Wrap Up
I can say that it is a wonderful show and that we had a great time, which is true. And that we did even better than last year, which is also true. And that this iteration of Dazzler hung out near our table for a bit, which was pretty cool. She even had a little disco ball hung around her neck. Now that's dedication!
Since Gabriel and I were guests this year we each got a table, which was pretty awesome. I came to think of our area as the Isthmus of Talent, since we were sandwiched between Jeff Parker on one side and Colleen Coover on the other. Beyond them were Paul Tobin, Tom Fowler, and Steve Lieber. Catty corner was Chris Samnee and his lovely wife Laura, and down the aisle was Ben Towle. I felt completely out of my league, but in a really good way. One of the highlights of the show for me was getting to watch Colleen produce sketches. I'm used to seeing Gabriel's works-in-progress, but Colleen has a completely different style and methodology. It was fascinating to watch her transform blank paper into small works of art. I came away from the show with a whole new level of respect for her work.
Gabriel was kept very busy sketching this year too, unbelievably producing more work than last year. He even got to draw Dazzler, but sadly I didn't get a chance to snap a picture. We also had the pleasure of hanging around Dave Wachter, who's up for an Eisner this year for his webcomic The Guns of Shadow Valley. If you haven't checked out his strip, you should. It was also great to see Dave Gallaher again. You should check out his webcomic High Moon too. Several of the Fantastic Fangirls were also in attendance, and it was a real pleasure to speak to them in person after exchanging tweets for the last several months.
I even got to spend a few days before the Con with my dear friend Tricia in South Carolina. We hiked, shopped in Asheville, got our nails done, and generally had a grand time. It was oh so Southern and full of sweet tea. So what can I say about Heroes Con except: I can't wait for next year!
