Valentina the curious

At Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats in Los Angeles, where I volunteer, we take our responsibilities to our "students" seriously. That means not only getting them off the street, cleaned up, healthy, and spayed or neutered, but teaching them all about how to be the very best, most companionable lap cats they can possibly be.

But all that hard work can't pay off until these felines find homes of their own, so that's why I recently signed up to be a "school councilor." That means that I'll be posting photos and networking deserving cats who are ready to graduate into loving families.

So, here's Valentina! Even though she was born in a rich neighborhood, her mom was feral and she had a bit of a rough start. It took a little while for her to learn that people are okay, but now she loves them. Other cats are pretty okay in her book too. I don't know about dogs, but chances are, she'd be just a relaxed around them as she is around everybody else. You say you'd like more photos? You're in luck!

Kitten of the Week - Magritte

Margritte is the funniest kid I've seen in a long time, and I see a lot of feline kids.

Kitten of the Week - Bow Wow

Bow Wow has a ton of attitude as well as a love of toys, toys, toys, and shoes. He's at Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats in Los Angeles along with his siblings and lots of friends. Give them a call if you're looking for a black kitten with an independent streak.

Kitten of the Week - Mochi

Mochi just can't help looking soulful. 

Kitten might be stretching it in Mochi's case since he's eight months old, but kitten season is pretty much over so I figured what the heck? Besides, who can resist these eyes?

He's up to date on all his shots, neutered, and such a ball of fun-loving snuggles that it's hard to believe he ever ended up on the streets. The streets are where he was living before coming to Kitty Bungalow though, and it's worth noting that he's so smart he basically rescued himself by jumping into the car of one of our volunteers while it was in the shop. Apparently he is also a very good judge of character, a trait that he thinks would make him an excellent addition to any household.

Kitten of the Week - Batgirl

How can it be that Batgirl is the last of her siblings to be adopted? Perhaps it's because her 3/4 mask makes her blend into the background. That's handy when you're hunting bright pink catnip birds but not so good when you're looking for a home.

Batgirl is also still a bit shy, but she warms up quickly once she learns that you're not an evildoer. And who can blame her? Life is hard for a kitten on the streets, even when that kitten is also a superhero. Luckily she's now safe at Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats, learning good manners and how how to be a bit more outgoing. She'll be ready for a new home January 2nd.

Kitten of the Week: Macaulley!

A lot of folks know by now that I volunteer at Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats. At the Bungalow we take scared, unsocialized kittens and teach them that humans are a-okay. In practice this means that feral kitties, taken off the mean streets, are introduced to the charms of being lap cats. And boy does that lesson take! It's nothing short of a miracle to see these kids transform from hissy balls of fluff into sleek purr monsters. But that's not the end of the story. Each kitten needs a loving home to graduate into so they can continue to practice what they've learned and make room for new underclassmen. With that in mind, I thought I might show off some of our students:

Macaulley here is a perfect example, and so he's my inaugural KITTEN OF THE WEEK.

Ready for action...

Too much playing makes for a tired kitten! 

Born into a feral colony, Macaulley somehow contracted a nasty stomach bug. Tiny kittens are fragile beasts, but the Bungalow was ready. After several tests the right antibiotic was found and Macaulley was soon on the mend. In the meantime he decided that he adores people, and now he's ready for a home of his own. As an added bonus, he promises to dispatch any flies or moths that are rude enough to invade your space. Already got a cat? Macaulley doesn't mind. As long as there are enough pats to go around, he's happy to share your lap. Know someone in Los Angeles who might like to meet Macaulley?
